Junior Championship 2014

Dalkeith Lawn Tennis Clubs Junior Championship 2014 was held today with under 12 and 16 age categories for both boys and girls.

A huge thank you and well played to all our competitors who put on a fantastic show of tennis for all the spectators.

Congratulations to our 2014 winners who are as follows:

Under 12 Girls - Miah Bhabutta (Runner up – Laura MacMaster)

Under 12 Boys - Anthony McClaren (Runner up – Ryan Cairns)

Under 16 Girls - Mila Clarke (Runner up – Catherine Allison)

Club Championship 2014

A very successful first day of the Club Championship Finals was held on Saturday 19th August.

The winners of today's matches are as follows:

Ladies Singles:  Joanna Young (played Susan Cook)

Men's Singles:  David Dowell (played Gareth Stewart)

Mixed Doubles:  Michael Roarty and Joanna Young (played Nigel and Elaine Gray)

Many congratulations to all the winners and well played to the runners up!

Many thanks to all who helped make it a very successful afternoon which includes all the umpires (and helpers!), bringers of food, carriers of chairs, benches and scaffolding,washers up, photographer, of course all the players and supporters.

Next Saturday, 23 August, will be the Men's and Ladies Doubles.  Please come for 2pm for a 2.30pm start (or a little earlier if all finalists are present).  We look forward to seeing many of you down to support, weather permitting.

Club opening postponed

Please note that the Club opening day has been postponed until Saturday 12th April at 2pm. Courts not quite ready for play due to recent weather.

ADULT COACHING - PLACES STILL AVAILABLE

There are still places available for Adult coaching, Monday evenings 14th April to 19th May, 6.30 pm start. Please contact us for further details or if you would like to book.

JUNIOR COACHING SESSIONS 1ST BLOCK NOW FULL

Please note that the first Block of Sunday Junior coaching sessions commencing 13th April are now fully booked.

For those of you that have a confirmed space I will be e mailing shortly with further information on Groups, times etc

For those of you who have not secured a place for this Block, I will advise when we are taking bookings for Block 2.

Please note that the Saturday morning Junior open sessions (10am – 12noon) will commence Saturday 12th April.

Cost of Junior membership: reduced to £40 * excludes Sunday morning coaching sessions

Sunday morning Junior Coaching: *Please note you must be a member to participate in the Sunday morning coaching sessions

2 x 8 week blocks during season

Cost per child/8 week block: £20

BLOCK 1:    13th April – 1st June (Red/Orange – 0900-1000, Green, 10.00-11.00, Yellow 11.00 – 12.00)

BLOCK 2:     29th June – 17th August

Sunday morning sessions will be open to members, secured on a first come, first served basis. If not all places are taken by members, sessions will be opened up to non-members.

1. Blocks must be booked and paid for in advance.
2. Coaches will be responsible for administration and management of Sunday sessions
3. Any remaining weeks in season will be filled with tournaments and other events open to all juniors at no cost.

Saturday junior morning – come and play

Saturdays 10am-12 noon

Courts made available for juniors and parents to come down to practice and play games.

These sessions will not be supervised by coaches but parents are encouraged to come down and join in with the children, help with practice, feed balls, join in with games etc.
Coaches will leave a limited amount of junior equipment for use on Saturday mornings (eg low compression balls, mini rackets)
No charge for these sessions.

Other Junior events

Easter 1 day camp:    18th April (subject to demand), please let me know if this is of interest

Summer Camps:        13th, 14th, 15th August (further details to follow)

Coaches will run ad hoc/taster events as required

Coaches will continue to work with local schools community:
Primary schools Health week
High Schools suspended timetable events.

Adult Coaching.

An initial block of 6 weeks of adult coaching will be available at the start of the tennis season.

These sessions will be designed for beginners or improvers who want to hit lots of balls, do stroke based drills to improve all aspects of their game and participate in some social doubles or singles practice matches.

The sessions will run from 6.30 – 8pm, 7^th April to 19^th May (excluding Monday 21^st April)

The cost for the 6 week block is £50 (approx £8.33 for one and a half hours coaching). The Classes will be taken by Bruce Beadle, LTA Level 3 Licensed Coach. You must be able to play at all of the sessions or make arrangements for an alternative player to take your place if you are unable to attend.

New Season starts soon

We are now accepting membership forms for the 2014 season. The Club hope to open on 5th April at 2pm and we have a full schedule planned for the season. The membership forms are available from the web site and please note arrangements in place for payment of subscriptions. Hope to see you on court soon!
